Thank you for your interest in my company, BARREL AGED WINE. I would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about who we are, what we do, and our business philosophy.

Who we are

My name is Jim Dunlavey and after 30 years in the Medical Device industry, managing International and Domestic businesses for Amsco International, STERIS Corporation and Boehringer Laboratories, I made the decision to follow my passion and get into the wine business. My wife Mary Ellen, my two sons Ryan and Eric and I have had the opportunity to live and work in Asia, Europe and numerous US east coast cities. We traveled the world experiencing and learning about different Cultures and Business practices. It was through this experience that I became interested and passionate about Wine, Winegrowing and learning about the various Winegrowing regions throughout the World. In 2002 my desire to get into the wine business took me to the University of California at Davis to complete their Executive Wine Marketing course which is part of the Masters Program offered through the Office of International de la Vigne et du Vin in Paris. I also completed courses in Winemaking at UC Davis. This education and my business experience helped me develop what I consider a unique business approach to promoting wine produced by Artisan Winegrowers with limited distribution.

A Family affair

Although Mary Ellen does not work in the business full time, she manages the Finances of the business to ensure our business growth. She shares my passion for wine and has a great pallet so she is also involved in the selection of wine for our portfolio. My son Ryan is an illustrator animator and together with his wife Liza, a designer, designed our logo, catalogs, shelf talkers and price lists. They will continue to be involved in the creative aspects of the business. My son Eric is the only family member not involved in the business at this time, but his recent move to Oakland, California, as an environmental biologist seems to have some obvious opportunities for him to participate in the business as well.

What we do

We believe that Fine Wine begins on the vine. We source wines from both Old World and New World Wine Regions and create relationships with Winegrowers that produce wine from the vine to the bottle. The Winegrowers we represent truly understand Winegrowing and the Varietals that impart the unique characteristics of their Region, microclimate and soil to the wine they produce. Our job is learn about their approach to Winegrowing and then help you tell this story to your Customers so that they can truly understand the value of the Wine they enjoy at your Restaurant or with friends and family in their home after they purchase our Wine from your establishment.

Our Business Philosophy

  • Our first priority is our Customer: Our Customers are the most important people to our business and we will make every effort to become partners in their success.
  • Continuous Improvement: Each and every day we will look for better and more efficient ways to serve our Customer and improve our Business operations.
  • Proactive Business approach: We are more concerned about how we can accomplish our goals and meet the needs of our Customers rather than the reasons why we cannot.
  • Education: We will dedicate ourselves to continuous education about Viticulture, Wine making technology, Old and New World Winegrowing Regions and communicate this knowledge to our Customers and their patrons.
  • Value: We will continue to source and offer Wines by Artisan Winegrowers in the US and abroad producing a quality product at value prices.
  • Integrity: We will conduct our business activities in a professional, ethical and legal manner with the highest degree of respect for our Customers and our community.
